There are all kinds of amazing drink recipes out there to boost your immune system, clear your sinus, and reduce mucus. However, so many of them are too complicated or time consuming to really make and drink every day! Here is a quick recipe you can easily make that will get you through this cold season without a stuffy nose! It’s so simple and effective that I drink it everyday, especially this time of year.
First let’s talk a bit about why this recipe works. Lemon water and fresh orange juice is amazingly beneficial. Just the juice from one large lemon can have your entire recommended daily amount of vitamin C! Not only that but lemon & orange juice also contains other minerals such as citric acid, calcium, and magnesium. Although lemons are acidic, lemon water actually is alkalizing meaning it helps to balance your body’s PH. Combined, lemon and orange juice gives your body the boost it needs to produce more white blood cells to fight disease.
Next ginger is well known for loosening mucus in the sinuses. Fresh ginger also contains anti-inflammatory compounds that help to relieve swollen sinus membranes. Ginger and cayenne both also have antimicrobial properties to support immune function. Strengthening the immune system in this way is important in the effort to reduce allergies and to prevent colds. Finally, add water! Simply increasing your water intake can help to loosen mucus and relieve allergies and sinus discomfort.

Optional:
Strain the drink to remove any large or fibrous bits of ginger.
Drink throughout the day cold or warm slightly to drink as a tea.
Do not overheat as some of the benefits will be lost if it is over-cooked.
Enjoy clear sinuses and a boosted immune system!
This recipe can be safely consumed by most people. However, vitamin C and ginger can act as a mild laxative causing diarrhea if you drink too much at a time. As with any herbal remedy, use common sense. Food and herbs as medicine can be very effective in reasonable doses, there’s no reason to over do it!
